Wheel of Question

By | December 8, 2010

Steven Fisher asks:

I was wondering if you could possibly ask on Bother’s Bar if anyone knew the exact rules regarding the ‘500 GAMBLE’ wedge on the Wheel of Fortune wheel circa 2000? Just intrigued by it and looking to implement the mechanics into a project I’m working on at the moment.

Anyone? I’d presume it would be some sort of take the 500 for the letter or risk a bankrupt or something good space, although I don’t know for sure.

        Really?
It looks cheap and nasty. I was hoping that some of the money saved on the set construction, may have gone on the prizes – but no. Hmm – let me see. Do I want the Vacum cleaner,or what appears to be a collection of salt and pepper shakers.

And the nice Finnish lady appears to be wearing one of her Dad’s Christmas jumpers, so neither can the wardrobe budget be that high for the show either.

Still – I did learn something. There is no word in Finnish for ‘person’.

I don’t do languages! Though to be honest I should have seen it coming with the “AE”.

I’m assuming it’s like our Mystery Wedges here- there are two wedges on the wheel, land on one and pick a right letter for $1,000 per appearance, then you have to decide if you want to pick up the wedge or not. One of the wedges is a Bankrupt, the other one has a $10,000 prize. Once one is picked up, the other one can’t be, but is still a $1,000 space.

BTW Buzzerblog reports that Million Dollar Money Drop has a lifeline called “Quick Change”. Once in the first six (of 7) questions, after the initial 60 seconds for placement are up but before any drops are opened, you can ask for an extra 30 seconds to move money around if you aren’t sure about your original placements (still keeping one drop open).

I thought it was only Live for a single special episode, and wasn’t live during the first week run.

The Sun’s reporting that ITV bosses have decided that the reason Push the Button didn’t set the ratings alight was that it wasn’t live… So S2 will be.

(Personally I count exactly three major problems with the S1 format, none of them exactly a deal breaker: Overlong introductions at the start of the show, the final competitive game would have been a lot more intuitive to viewers and players if the leading team had the extra time before anyone started rather than after the trailing team finished, and the end game.)

However, I think the the first method led to some exciting beating the clock moments.

The live thing isn’t really news anyway, that’s been known for a long time. Ditto Millionaire, although that’s never been live except for one episode.

Millionaire was only live for their 299th episode (although they say 300th but Charles Ingram’s episode wasn’t shown until six months later).

The early days had the show recorded 24 hours prior to transmission,
