Show Discussion: Total Wipeout series 4

By | January 8, 2011

Lots of shows on tonight, probably the one that’s going to get the most attention is the new series of Total Wipeout which begins this evening, 6pm on BBC1.

Very quickly as I’ve got to go out, I watched the premiere episode of Winter Wipeout that went out in the States this week – an improvement on season three I think, a few cheap impossible obstacles in the qualifier which are funny the first few times, the Kki-lift round two was really good I thought, like an upper-body strength version of The Sweeper. The Seven-Letter Word I can take or leave, really like the new Winter Wipeout Zone, particularly the sinster snowflakes, which is like a real life version of something from Mario Galaxy. Good.

Seeing as Total Wipeout has no new obstacles or anything that might make it interesting, I’ll give it a miss.

    Loved Winter Wipeout though!

The fourth series is using the same course (apart from the odd new obstacle) as with last year (series three) but they have already recorded a fifth series which does use the revamped course.

I hope they do use The Dreadmill more this series, it was only used once last year.

They surely haven’t filmed it – just commissioned it. Though knowing the BBC and Total Washout producers I wouldn’t be surprised and in the meantime we get another series of recycled crap.

I will also praise Winter Wipeout, showing a bit more imagination than the previous season. I think the snowflakes are good because at first glance they look near-impossible, but there’s actually more than one way to get over. Very glad the spiked whackers are gone.

    Ratings

    All New Total Wipeout – 5.18m 24.1%
    The Magicians – 5.4m 23.1%
In It to Win It – 6.09m 25.1%
    Take Me Out – 3.64m 15%

Good return for Total Wipeout (Joe will be happy). Not surprised with The Magicians, I said last week it would be around the same rating since the new schedule comes into effect. IItWI was the joint most watched show last night (along with Casualty). It proves that The Winton can still get ratings when the show isn’t up against Simon Cowell.

As for Take Me Out, has the fandom died already?

Great ep of IItWI last night, with four contestants each winning £16,250 – though in the cases of Joanne, Simone and Chelle it came from making a complete guess.

A few tears as well, obviously indicating that the money meant quite a lot to them.

I’ve never watched Take Me Out before and caught 10 minutes of it whilst flicking. Was 10 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

I don’t watch it fully, just when I’m flicking. The show is alight, got a following at my workplace but I’m starting to wonder if every single man is getting a date and not being eliminated. If so then it half-defeats the format of the show.

I see Hole in the Wall is being repeated next Saturday for the millionth time. I reckon Talkback Thames/CBBC should produce a kids version of the show. I hear it has worked in America on Cartoon Network. All you need is two celebrity captains and four children and make it a CBBC Channel exclusive on a Friday evening. Simples!

I’m not sure were you’re getting that from. I’ve seen a man eliminated every week this past season.

Total Wipeout was pretty dull for the Qualifier I thought, they’ve improved King of the Mountain just by editing it more reasonably, they’ve stopped replaying absolutely everything that happens on it, they actually let some things just happen once and then moved on. The sweeper on Dizzy Dummies was also excellent!

I really didn’t like the ‘Ski Lift’ on Winter Wipeout. It just became a contest of who could hold on the longest. It’s pretty clear that it was meant to be like The Sweeper, jumping over the arms but they had to add the handles to make it easier. I think it ruins the game however. The Wipeout Zone was definitely an improvement though, lots of good obstacles.
