Things

Come back in a bit, I’ll have done the You Don’t Know Jack HD iPad review and if I have the time, Ellen’s Know or Go.

In the meantime, Twitter has just announced that The Cube is coming back for a fourth series, so well done The Cube.

Edit: Here’s You Don’t Know Jack.

And 12 Yard’s Holding Out For a Hero has apparently been comissioned for the autumn, so well done them.

Right, and here’s Ellen’s Know or Go HD. If you don’t know Know or Go is, think Russian Roulette if it was done in the same style as Channel 4 non-hit Sabotage. Why isn’t there a verison of Russian Roulette (as in the TV show) on the app store, eh? Anyway, here’s a video.

Paul Brassey will be wondering why The Cube (with its 3.5m ratings) has been recommissioned whilst his show, The Colour of Money, which had a similar no. of viewers was axed. It’s internal politics – did you know one of the Light Entertainment Executives at ITV is shagging someone high up at Objective Productions, “allegedly”! The same sort of thing happened with 101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow which deserved another series.

      Dude, you’re Paul Brassey obsessed.

Anyway, as we all know £2bn in debt Endemol axed 101 WTLAGS for being too popular or something.

There were differences in the vision that Endemol had in the show to the BBC’s.

Still, the ever popular The Million Dollar Money Drop, eh?

I am still baffled as to why Endemol having a different vision has anything to do with top execs sleeping around. Can you pick up STDs that make your sight go funny?

          *JOKE ALERT*

      Oh, buttons, Sir I-Dislike-The-Cube-alot.

101 Ways To Boost The Profile Of That Twat Steve Jones was a complete piece of shit – regardless of the visions Endemol and the Beeb had of it.

And it very definitely did not deserve more than one series.

And for heavens’ sake, give Paul a break, will you? 🙄

Colour of Money = Big league Saturday night show that constantly failed to deliver.

The Cube = Sunday night show that’s gathered a cult following.

3.5m is decent Sunday night ratings, especially given the current weather. But 3.5m on Saturday primetime is unacceptable.

There’s also the unusually strong ratings on BBC1 that the Cube has to contend with.

Or… perhaps it was the fact that TCOM’s figures slumped from 20% share to 12% share, meaning it was delivering around half the viewers they were expecting it to get? Notwithstanding it received one of the worst set of reviews in living memory?

Even on a bad week when it’s getting 3.5m, The Cube is still bringing in 17% share. TCOM was pulled after ratings of 2.5m and 2.9m.

For those with short memories who don’t understand why 101WTLAGS wasn’t recommissioned and The Cube was, read:

I’ve decided not to talk about COM any more, it’s too upsetting.

I have to say it’s a little weird to have you bring my name up on here. I’ve started wondering whether you’re actually someone I know who’s created a hilarious satirical “TV Insider” character just to wind-up the Bar faithful. The last time you talked about me I even asked Josephine if you were her, which she assures me you’re not (pointing out that she’s really busy, whereas you post here quite often).

If you ARE on a wind-up then good luck to you (“internet people” deserve winding up sometimes, although there are probably sites more deserving of your ire than this one) but can you leave me out of it from now on?

Apologies. I won’t discuss it anymore. I was just giving an example of how unfair the world of TV can be, when two shows get similar audiences, yet decisions regarding commissioning more are different. Apologies once again.

I think it would be a great end to the story if it turns out Joe doesn’t work for telly at all and he’s just… some… mental. Maybe one day we will find out.

I would have assumed John De Mol had better things to do than post on here, but you do remind of a question I had been meaning to ask which is what happened to Jonathan Ross backed The Golden Cage?

To be fair to you, the mathematical systems involved in TCOM were quite interesting, and I think we had some great fun analysing them before the start of the show…

…Just a shame they didn’t translate to screen. At all.

      Awesome set,though.

Million Pound Drop will have two more series later this year, after the one starting this Friday. Those 2 series will have 17 episodes in total and will be shown in September and December.

This was confirmed in Broadcast Magazine. What they haven’t said is that C4 have committed to the show till at least next year, so even more series to come.

That would be 12 shows in September and 5 shows in December.

Your folks are “really” copying the Millionaire handbook, aren’t you?

Incidentally, how no-one’s been decapitated yet by these trapdoor formats is a minor miracle.

Also by the by, I had the same idea way back in the late 90s in the days of Crystal Maze. The idea was you’d stand over one of four trapdoors in the pool room in Aztec zone and each time you got the answer wrong you’d get dunked. I can see why it wasn’t chosen since it wasn’t a particularly TCM thing to do, but it still would’ve been fun.

Also, the diplomatic Quartet in the Middle East *contains* the UN (along with the EU, US and Russian Federation) – it is not the ‘UN Quartet’.

And there’s a missing “‘s” in the next question.

      So…

…You basically came up with the concept of a one player Russian Roulette for a show that didn’t really support it about a decade before Russian Roulette? (Though the concept of ‘being asked questions’ isn’t too un-Crystal-Maze given Mumsy* lasted four series)

*Including the one year she was replaced by an aunt

Not surprised at The Cube getting another series- put it along with X Factor in the fall and you’ll probably see the ratings recover nicely (and do we know what the breakdown in viewers is? They may be getting a lot of younger viewers, which are more prized at least on ad-based networks)…

I very much doubt it will get a slot near the X factor, they’ll be saving those slots for new shows. Like holding out for a hero or some gameshow for Christine Bleakley.

I wonder if All star family fortunes has been give another series yet? Like The Cube its ratings dived when it had No X Factor association.

As discussed on an earlier post. All Star Family Fortunes will return for a sixth series in the autumn. Filming takes place over the summer months.

Thanks Travis and Des Elmes. If thats returning in the Autumn along with Harry Hill then I can see holding out for a hero airing in the Sunday 7pm slot.

I’m not sure that’s going to be true – if it’s coming back in the Autumn, and X Factor is going to be on Saturday and Sunday, where’d it go? I can’t see them putting The Cube on at six.

Judging by the clips, it’s a little hard to figure these games out.

This looks more like a children’s game show than an adult one. Is Nickelodeon watching?
