Saturday Night’s Alright for Writing 8th September 2012

By | September 8, 2012

OK, so it doesn’t get lost down the back of the sofa, I went and saw future ITV1 entertainment offering My Man Can last night and you can read what I thought here.

Also, a quick plug that I’ve got a poker game coming Tuesday evening at 8:30pm, you can read about Dancing With the Cards here. It’s open to anyone with $13.50 resting in their Pokerstars account.

OK, on with the show:

  • Total Wipeout – 6:35pm, BBC1
  • Red or Black – £1.5m on the line tonight, Britain’s biggest gameshow cash prize ever (unless you count The E-Millionaire Show, although that was split two ways, so). I wonder what is going to happen. (7:25pm and 9:10pm, ITV1)
  • The X Factor – 8:10pm, ITV1
  • The National Lottery Secret Fortune – Of course the big thing in the lottery last week were the jackpot winners winning less than the five plus bonus winners because of a freak winner breakdown – five winners, one second prize winner. Not the first time it’s happened (as newspapers would have you believe), there was that time about 15 years ago when there were 130-ish jackpot winners although I can’t find the story. Well I probably could, but I’m lazy. (8:20pm, BBC1)

There’s no Fort Boyard now. My Sunday morning catch-up is going to feel lost without it 🙁 Although I suppose there is Sweden and the Netherlands.

NEXT WEEK: Schlag den Raab is BACK. EDIT: no it’s been pushed back a week. Sorry.

Speaking of the lottery, it’s been a year and a half now since the Independent reported that the Beeb was almost certain to lose the rights to show the draws live at the end of 2012:

Well, we’re into the final four months of ’12 now, and there’s been no further news.

Is the Corporation prepared to let the draws go that quietly, a bit like with Neighbours four years ago?

Or – seeing as George Entwistle is about to replace Mark Thompson as Director-General – could it be possible that it’s had a change of heart somewhere, and will bid to renew its contract with Camelot after all?

Some lovely person has posted another episode of Scavengers on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RPe5LL3v7o . It claims to be the first ever episode, which suggests that the Australian guy who has already posted five episodes has his series backwards – of course they could have been broadcast that way in Australia?

Also the male member of the red team seems to be Roddy Mackay from a particularly famous battle with Wolf on Gladiators.

Oh and Brig, you have X Factor down as a BBC one show, give it back!

Meant to post a second link there, was too excited by the prospect of Scavengers!

Roddy v Wolf on Hang Tough.

Yoou could argue that it is a BBC One show now and it’s just called The Voice, but the audition rounds are admittedly where there’s a bloody cavernous gap between the two shows (and in favour of the Beeb’s show, it must be said).

It was only the 9th draw when 133 people shared the jackpot, winning £120,000 each. The winning numbers, 7, 17, 23, 32, 38, 42 and 48, had 7’s, multiples of 7 and were in the central columns of the ticket paper.

Stefan Raab is going to have a new show in november(“Absolute Mehrheit)”. It’s gonna be a political talkshow with a small twist: Five people (2-3 politicians, one expert and one normal person) will talk about 4 topics to gather the “total majority” (in German it’s called “absolute Mehrheit”, don’t know the English word) of the audience, which will vote via sms and telephone. In the end only three people will be talking and the person that gets the total majority will win 100.000€. If no one gets it, the money will roll over to next week’s jackpot. Think it sounds interesting. In Germany we have already six weekly political talkshows on our public broadcasters(5 on ARD and one on ZDF), which are all consideres to be very much the same. So this will be great. And since it’s gonna be on sunday nights, it will be shown at the same time as “Günther Jauch” is, a political talkshow by the German “Who wants to be a millionaire”.
