Just a note that “Bother’s Bar’s favourite comedian” Tim Vine was on a brand new QI last Friday (his first appearance on the show I believe) – that and the XL one are on the iPlayer for the rest of the week.

The practical joke section of the episode is not QI’s most edifying hour, mostly directed at Alan as you would expect, though Stephen Fry at least has the good grace to self-deprecate at the description of QI as an intellectual show. Perhaps this is the point where the show demonstrated that it has run out of ideas.

Unrelatedly, next year you (pl.) could have a Fifty50 special revealing the results of the UKGS annual polls, in the style of the (one-time only!) Challenge TV Game Show Awards. I bet you could get Richard Osman to record a soundbite if he had reason to make an acceptance speech.

OK, I’ve sped forward through episode 2 of Splash! What the hell was that vote about at the end? Charlotte flopped off a 7.5m platform and entered the water at an angle. Joey jumped off a 10m platform, did a pike, and entered the water pretty vertical.

I can understand Jo Brand voting for Charlotte to stick up for the girlies or not make her embarrassed or keep the tension going or whatever. But how on earth could Leon justify that decision?

And what a car crash of a vote it was earlier to deny the second-best diver of the night, Caprice, a place in the jump off.

I have a feeling the producers know it’s the more salacious side of the viewership that will be hanging around, so they need to stack the deck with something for ‘the lads’. Slightly concerning really.

I predict the Golden Five to be:

    5. The Cube
    4. Deal or No Deal
    3. The Chase
    2. Only Connect
    1. Pointless

(with Breakaway in the top ten)

…and for Victoria Coren to happen to retweet a link to the poll next year, whether Richard Osman does or not. Not-spoil us up: were there a record number of ballots this year in the end or not, please?

I believe so. As for *how many* extra ballots Richard Osman’s RTs made you’ll JUST have to wait and see!
