MIA

OK, we get schedules change all the time but we’re quite interested in shows that we thought were starting that seem to have mysteriously disappeared. Presumably they’ve just been pushed back, but is that a sign of confidence or something more… sinister? So, does anyone know anything?

  • My Man Can – apparently ITV’s big Saturday night hope was originally suggested to go out in January. It’s DISAPPEARED.
  • Prize IslandIn theory we thought this sounded quite good. Sounds like it’s going out in the Spring, although I thought it was earlier. Incidentally, people have suggested there’s another series of The Cube that’s not yet been broadcast yet they’re making another one, so that’s got to fit somewhere.
  • My Little Princess – A big press release suggested E4 would be showing this in January. They haven’t. Again, quite looking forward to this, a dating show by way of Takeshi’s Castle/Wipeout from one of the brains behind the brilliant Banzai.
  • The Common Denominator – Again, press release suggesting this was going to begin on Monday 4th Feb but Face the Clock (which yesterday barely scraped 250k viewers) is still on, and on next week also. Did they just miscount the amount of episodes or something?

Meanwhile fans of The Line Up can be pleased to know that there’s a new episode coming soon. Thanks to our friends at QuizQuizQuiz.com for supplying the questions. Quizicoatal’s costume designer isn’t telling me how it’s dressing this episode yet.

Also POKER on Sunday at 8pm, Game two of Mix It Up Real Good concerns Razz – seven card Stud Low. It’s a lot of fun and here’s a crib sheet so you know what to look out for. I have an engagement all day Sunday and might actually be late for the game myself but if you want to play and are not a member of the Poker Club yet it’s very very important you apply sooner rather than later because if you wait until Sunday I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to admit you in time. FAIR WARNING. Tell your friends!

I suspect My Man Can was meant to be for January. That was before they found the popularity of Splash! and shunted them out. I suspect it will now be either the spring as a lead in for Britain’s Got Talent for the summer.

I had it in my mind that Face The Clock had 35 episodes which would mean it finishing on Fri 22nd Feb, I think, though whether it’ll survive that long is anyone’s guess!

On the subject of Face The Clock, picking up on a point made by David a few days ago, I wonder if the reason Rory calls it “The Clock” is because they hadn’t even decided on a final title at the recording stage – has such a thing ever happened before?!

This seems to pretty much be basically it. The notion of having the title before you film is an odd one admittedly.

It was going to be Race the Clock up until about mid-December.

Catch-22 methinks: C4 toggles between 34 and 35 episodes of ‘Face the Clock’, just wait and see whether it turns up on Friday (question: repeat or no repeat?) or not. No repeats are scheduled the very next week.

Common Denominator now appears to be confirmed for 3.30 on 18 Feb – if Channel 4 changes their schedule now, it’ll mess up the Television Times (other listings magazines are available).

Face the Clock was always down as a 30-episode commission, so comes to a natural conclusion next week. Just to get their money’s worth, C4 have scheduled repeats for 2.10 in the week of 18 Feb. That’s unless they’ve been sneaking repeats into the 3.30 run and no-one has noticed.

Face the Clock should have been pushed back to 2.40pm and Countdown restored to 3.15pm within a couple of weeks of it’s run – it’s flopping big time and Coountdown would only see it’s figures increase by returning to it’s slot, which in turn would help the struggling Deal or No Deal too.

But no, this is C4 – so they let a stinker play out just as daytime gets ultra competitive, and then give it an immediate repeat run.

And wish E4 would hurry up with My Little Princess. Why announce a show and all but announce the date then not schedule it.

Trying to work out whether all the bile I have stored up for Face the Clock will last until the next UKGS poll. It will take something quite special to “beat” it.

in random game show news, Interceptor was briefly covered on (the otherwise dodgy) Paddy’s TV Guide last night. lots of laughing at the squaking ensued.

Well, I’m thinking at the moment that The Common Denominator should be better received than Face The Clock, but I reckon you lot will have the following potential issues with it:

    1 – Not enough questions
    2 – Variable question difficulty
3 – Series contains Daniel Peake as a contestant

We’ll see which of those causes the most grief soon. No idea when the show I’m on will be shown yet, but as you’ll see one person in the first round got much harder questions than the other two players (at least I reckon so).

      (…onaghan, I choose to believe.)

Would it be fair to blame Ray Winstone and company popping up mid-game it inform us that it’s “all about the in-play” on Banzai a decade or so beforehand? Surely not, though there’s enough of a hint of intonation and frenetic pace in those adverts with Chris Kamara and what might possibly be Senor Banzai’s Spanish Cousin to consider them, er, a tribute of sorts. All they’re missing are the phrases “What a smashing bloke” and “Betting Ends”, and that’s surely a matter of time.

About a year ago I think they HAD Mr.Banzai as the proper advert for Ladbrokes.

None of my doing, but you’re right, a couple of betting companies have been “inspired” by the Banzai vibe, god bless their cotton socks. Sadly none of their millions made it to me. Perhaps with the new show we’ll have loads of dating sites ripping us off. You’ve got to have a dream haven’t you!

Ooops. Think they chose to buy the Bachelor in the end instead of making another series. Please watch My Little Princess though. Basically it’s banzai and Hercules combined. Or what you would get if Jackass made Blind Date. We need all the support we can get to continue making different telly
