In terms of gameshows featuring horror there’s a fine line between Fort Boyard and The Door really. It’s in the world and it’s in the tasks. In the feel. Estate of Panic = right side of the line. Scream If You Want To Get Off = wrong side of the line.
Hoping to stay on the right side of the line is the upcoming Release the Hounds on ITV2, and it’s certainly scoring full marks for setting:
They seem to be going for a striking Blair Witch feel. We really want this to be good. It’s “due out” as a one-off with a view to a series around Halloween on ITV2.
Followed, doubtless, by the behind-the-scenes show Who Let The Hounds Out? presented by Rufus Hound (And Possibly That Videator From Games World Who Used To Shout “Release The Hounds”, You Know The One).
Predicted twist: there aren’t any hounds.

I can confirm that there are no plans for a ‘Who let The Hounds Out?’ spin off programme, although ITV2 does love a good pun so I can’t promise someone wont read that and decide it’s a great title! As Paul B says, there are definitely dogs involved in the show, whether anyone gets eaten remains to be seen.
I’m actually looking forward to this one, we don’t get much in the way of Gameshow joy on two, except for Juice so it’s nice to have something so promising. Plus of course it’s nice to see something Halloween related at that time of the year!
