Have a place to post stuff that won’t fit anywhere else in this quiet period.

The Million Pound Drop is coming back, you know. I hope they’ve made their Final Drop a bit better.

Saw an episode of the Spanish Money Drop version yesterday – they have a different twist for Q8. Players can elect to have two, three or four answers for the final question, and selecting three or four respectively double or treble their current bankroll but they’ll still have to go all-in on one and only one answer.

French news : a LOT of old games are returning. First, Pyramide’s back with Olivier Minne hosting, should start this summer. Then Weakest Link is in casting phase and should return sometime later in the year , channel and host are currently unknown. And even more surprising : Deal should also be back in September ! Rumors says that’s Julien Courbet (En toutes Lettres, Seriez-vous un Bon Expert, 4ème Duel) who would be hosting on D8 (sister digital channel of Canal+), so lower budget than the TF1 version.

Finally, Nagui is running a pilot for The Lie this month. Top prize €128k (hello double-or-nothing money ladder ?), also there should be some kind of interactivity between the studio audience and the player via an smartphone app.

I like The Lie but I hope Nagui isn’t going to overplay it. I hope he at least keeps the single bank option.

I wonder what a new version of Weakest Link would look like.

Shares in eyeshadow companies have just leapt 17%

A predictable choice and a ‘fair’ one I suppose, but if this means Tess trying to do wisecracks to camera I fear this may be jumping the shark time. I can’t deny the empirical evidence that episodes without Bruce were more popular…

Richard Osman called it as a can’t-miss shot at about 3-1 or 4-1 on Fighting Talk on Grand National day. No, I didn’t have any money on it, but he should still get some points.

Bumdidlyumptious said on twitter today that she’s currently partway through subbing episode 1 of Crime Scene. Which for those who didn’t catch the news the other week, is basically kind of Korean Whodunit with celebs (including Jinho of course, which is why she’s subbing in the first place).

I get the feeling it won’t be quite as amazing as S1 The Genius but still worth a watch.

Wonderfully, the Metro called it ‘Fort Boyard-esque’.

Schlag den Star is coming back but this time it’s going to be pitting celebs up against each other, which actually makes all sorts of sense.

Now watching Quizduell at ARD, and the players at home are reduced to viewers due to a server flooding (and the audience members are now in control).

Jörg Pilawa later said, that there was one single hacker who prevented all 15,000 servers to work.. I’m not sure what to think about this, but Jörg Pilawa invited him just to see the genius. Would be funny if he’d go there!

Ha. I’ve just posted that in a post on the front page. Interesting and embarrassing in equal measures. It seems like a good concept, just a shame they couldn’t secure the servers properly.

Well, at least they had the good sense to have a backup plan.

Is it during the 10-11th minute where they say that they’re playing against the studio audience? It looks like it was handled reasonably well.

          2. Nico W.

I don’t know the minute, but it was handled really well and it seems that it worked today. And the ratings were better then they are normally in that slot. They aren’t great, but good enough for the ARD to keep the show. They will also try it with celebrities as a primetime show next week, I hope there is more cash to play for then since more people will be playing. However I think the format is as simple as the app. This is what they wanted, but it’s not a must-see for me…

I’ve just watched Quizduell. A decent enough format, and 29 questions over 50 minutes (with ad breaks) suggests pacing wasn’t bad either. Set, graphics and sound effects all pretty good. Honestly, I think a version of it would work here. Try and watch it if you can (or maybe a version with the app working).

Day Two: Quizduell servers still haven’t recovered from the legendary DDoS attack.

Oh they have Kelly Hoppen books in the daughter’s room on Crime Scene! (Shouldn’t we start a Crime Scene post? I think I’ll try to watch the entire season, though it doesn’t seem too ingenious)

I didn’t like it that much in the beginning, but the second part gets better and better. I don’t like the idea of always eliminating the person voted the criminal, it seems unfair to me. But the rest seems great and it’s the first time I enjoy seeing interactive stuff on screen. I’ll keep watching for sure. Ah and the best thing was the voting. I think it was done with an unbelievably great style!

Yes I’ll be starting a post just after I’ve watched it, which I will begin doing in about ten minutes.

Thanks for sharing; worked for me without having to break out Tunnelbear or the like.

From a single minute of action, it looks more like Survivor wearing +2 chainmail than anything else, and I don’t recall being asked to get excited about “From the executive producer of…” to quite that extent before. (Maybe not quite fair, but normally when someone behind-the-scenes is used as a name, they’re usually a bit closer to the scenes than an EP.)

A pragmatic decision, and not unwelcome on its own terms, but not some way-out-there, atomic, epic US Knightmare as I was vaguely hoping. Exciting nevertheless.

8 rotating dealers this time by the looks – Celia and Gordon return along with five others from the daytime bunch plus the return of Jeff Salmon!
