Boredom roulette

By | April 15, 2015

We don’t like to go three days without a post but there’s not much gossip about so instead what I’ve done is gone through my Youtube recommended list and posted the first related thing it came up with, notwithstanding full episodes of Jeux Sans Frontieres with disgraced commentator Stuart Hall commentaries (these remain interesting historically and are easily found by searching for them) and it came up with Viking, which was a sort of unsuccessful longboat-themed obstacle course in the Sasuke mould, and with occasional mental agility elements. In fact Eurosport used to show it with English commentary back in the mists of time.

I always was sad Viking never caught on. Sasuke is well and good and all but Viking had a much more interesting course, I thought.

Agreed. I also quite liked that they picked a theme and ran with it a bit, except when they gave up at Final Viking.

I liked that they did a few variations (I think there were two family and two celebrity courses). There was also a Korean spinoff which was also worth a watch.

I think a lot more things should have obstacle course game shows made out of them. This could easily be re-purposed as a Pirates of the Caribbean branded show. (I mean I am pretty sure they actually using the soundtrack here.)

There was a PotC version of Takeshi’s Castle on German television not so long ago, but only seemed to last one series.

I remember being blown away that Nagano completed the spider flip. Now it’s a Sasuke regular ever since the much more difficult redesign of stage 3, and the competitors who reach it tend to have little trouble with it.

    So here’s a different question.

An exit game (no names, no pack drill) recently posted “How would you feel if we brought an I’m a Celebrity themed room to you? To escape you’d have to complete all the challenges. Great fun?”

All manner of no-o-o-o-o-o from me, but would some of you mad ferrets be up for it? When there are more and more horror experiences about, this has the feel of something that would find a few, probably drunk, stag and hen night parties wanting to play. Perhaps Silent Library might be a better way to frame the minor tortures still, if only more people were aware of it.

I’d have to be in the right sort of mood to go for it personally, but I can certainly see how a some light-endurance would have people lining up to play.
