Happy Rugby World Cup day!

By | September 18, 2015

I’ve drawn Brazil in the sweepstakes, so I fancy my chances!

In other news, I put “rugby gameshow” in Youtube and this is the first thing that showed up, an episode of the US show Jackpot with the poster’s high school rugby coach in:

Anyone happen to catch that show ITV did this week about TV theme songs of their shows over their 60 year history? ( I used the dark arts to watch) interesting show I thought and two game shows made the list they had- WWTBAM and Blockbusters…

The ITV 60th strand on the whole has been rather good – far more aimed at the television and nostalgia enthusiast than being a big shouty celebration ala the 50th.

I wonder how much the composers of the WWTBAM theme have made from it over the years.

I thought S4C must have had a rugby game show at some point.

Watched Noel’s DOND in between the rugby tonight – probably the first episode I’ve watched in ages and it’s no wonder the show is dying a slow death – it’s now blatantly a 45 minute show milked for 15 minutes longer than it needs to be and not even Noel was an interesting enough player to justify padding it out. Really not sure either Box 23 and the offer button should have been retained as regular features – they’d be better just using them for specials.

Talking of which, seems the new series begins with Grandparents and Grandkids playing together. I’m surprised they never did another run of live episodes – that’s probably the last time I watched an entires weeks of episodes.

Yesterday the NDR (who brought us e.g. the great German adaptation of the Chase) celebrated its 50th birthday. They celebrated it by showing 105 minutes of two of their biggest faces (Ina Müller and Bjarne Mädel) in a hotel bed watching old programmes. It was really interesting and rather funny (although the two were sometimes a bit annoying), so if you would like to watch some German TV history I recommend “Die Müller und der Mädel glotzen fern” in the “NDR Mediathek”.
Another channel celebrated its birthday some weeks ago: WDR also turned 50. Instead of showing memories, they had two “Innovationswochen” where they changed the entire schedule to try new programmes. Although these weren’t all great, I liked the idea and they will definitely bring some of the programmes back. (I hope they won’t try to get the awful German adaptation of Virtually Famous, I hated it.) You can watch some of these in the “WDR Mediathek” if you search for “#machtan or machtan” (that was their slogan for these weeks).
