Seeing as #TheChase has got it’s own emoji this weekend on Twitter albeit for an unrelated NASCAR event we ask:

Lion and water already have a their own wall so I have disqualified them, and I’m only allowed four options. Big decision!

Changing the subject: “Dracula; Escape The Castle” runs weekly at 10pm on Sunday nights on INsight (Sky 564), a channel of which I had not previously heard, or available online the next day. Bonus points for the apparent inclusion of a semi-colon in the show’s title. (Is this a first?)

Dracula, Escape the Castle is an original, bloodcurdling gameshow which sees two duos trapped within an authentic Romanian castle, with only one night to escape ‘Dracula’. The contestants vary from lovers and family members, to best friends and colleagues. Locked inside the castle walls by charismatic host, Brendan Moar, duos must escape by completing various mental and physical challenges.

In each episode, the two couples face three stages of being locked in room, with the ultimate goal of escaping in the fastest time. The fastest couple to escape the first two rooms, gain a 30 second time advantage in the final stage. This final is a frantic race to ignite a giant bat silhouette on the castle courtyard.

Dracula is a game of skill, courage and trust: skill to escape the rooms; courage to find clues; and trust in your fellow teammate. To survive, contestants will have to utilise their skills and face their worst fears.

Might be a bit Estate of Panic. Might not.

There is a pop-up escape room in London this weekend themed around it. Not sure if any of the usual suspects have tickets.

Alright this is quite interesting and a bit more elaborate than last time, more Soska Twins who appear to the team in the flesh, largely improved endgame, more of a thriller and more use of masked men but less puzzly challenges in the main and many more bits that have been edited in a way that feels unreal.

Four contestants now enter the Slaughterhouse. One of them, which sounds like the person who applied, immediately taken to the Inferno Cell by the Soskas, a place where they’ll be held hostage and lightly mentally tormented (a snake! Some rats! For about twenty seconds).

The other three individually take on challenges as before for increasing amounts of money but cut way back from last year – now $2k, 3k and 5k (compared to 5, 10, 15) last year. Losing doesn’t mean a gruesome death, it means you get taken to the Inferno Cell. Running back to the Hellevator still feels mighty silly.

In the final, any remaining contestants take on The Inferno Run. A series of seven doors and behind each one a different challenge. Complete the challenge and you can open the box which contains money or the key to release your teammates. You can keep going for money but once the team is released you have to run for the Hellevator. You have seven minutes and there’s $40k up for grabs, so the money’s the same as last year but weighted rather differently. To narrow the odds, one of the non-key doors is eliminated for each main challenge won. (At least this is how it worked in week one to tie in with the secen deadly sins theme).

It’s still not funny in the same way Release the Hounds can be very funny, but worth a watch at least.

How much more painful can DOND’s death get?

Staying on the subject of Channel 4 afternoon game shows, is it really 15 years now since Number One was on? Good grief…

James Bourne on Game Show Gallery considers this show to be “unjustly forgotten because it was good”. I wouldn’t disagree, although it wasn’t helped by three things: comparisons with the Weakest Link, a lengthy interruption for Ashes coverage, and the fact that it just wasn’t Fifteen-to-One.

Eh, I see from the Channel 4 website it’s not starting on the 10th. Where did you read it was coming back on the 17th?
