New old feature alert!

By | March 22, 2010

It’s a bit quiet, so I’ve chucked up…

  • We Heart The Mole – a tribute to one of the best shows ever. Originally written in 2005.

There will be a feature on French Jacques Antoine one series wonder La Piste du Xapatan by Saturday, and when I say “by Saturday”, I mean “probably on Saturday”. There was a British pilot for that made once you know.

Meanwhile, Push the Button increased to 5.5m (against 5.3 watching the England rugby on BBC1) according to overnights posted on DS. The Brucie interview “did” 4.6m. A late rally? Next week it’s up against Who Dares Wins, but that’s got Norton-Webber-a-thon Over the Rainbow as a lead in, so I don’t think Ant and Dec will be jumping for joy just yet.

…Well I haven’t shouted at the screen that much at a wall since Quarks.

K7 in the programming languages group, indeed. (Granted if you squint… It’s the name of the V8 Javascript standard library…)

Granted, I wasn’t sure which of the five were going to be in it, but five isn’t too hard to combo.

Two highly entertaining (and competant!) teams this evening, it’s a shame they had to meet relatively early in the competition really.

The Gamblers have to win this now surely? If only for their Quizzing pedigree.

Only Connect Quiz Book for Christmas please, David.

Early? Brig, there are only three episodes left! Just 87 more minutes of staring blankly at the screen in complete and utter discomprehension at what’s being unravelled before your eyes… well, you can always get the same effect from Coronation Street.

How would an Only Connect quiz book work? Do you have a number of first clues on page 4, second clues on page 6, third clues on page 8, and complete the sets on page 10, before giving the answers on page 12? Does the book come with cut-up pieces of cereal packet, to help play the grids? A double-spread of Victoria’s snarkiest put-downs?? Half-a-million people want to know!

Curious, I felt it was all and all easier than the other quarters. (Which isn’t to say ‘easy,’ mind)

A lot of people on Twitter found this the toughest quarter-final so far, which maybe it was, but if you think that’s tough then you’ll LOVE the semis.

Ratings broke 500,000 last night. Given that the show was originally expected to do 100k back in the day, that ain’t bad at all.

Tougher than last week’s? Really? Blimey.

Perhaps it just feels like less hard going when teams actually get the answers.

I absolutely agree with that. If you find the right customers for the questions, the show just flies. Even if the questions are easier than average, two inexperienced sides can slow everything down.

It deserves to be doing better! How the hell does Ant and Dec get 5.5m and Only Connect (one of the best gameshows in years) only gets 0.5m? 🙁

Most people think of ITV as having the sort of thing they might like to watch, and BBC4 as having nothing but subtitled films and documentaries on esoteric topics, so don’t bother looking at the BBC4 listings.

          Or something.

Presumably the shutting off of analogue in the old Grenada region recently will have helped the ratings of all the freeview channels…

Also: the BBC FOUR bug is hugely annoying.

(Didn’t know they got Freeview in Grenada…)

Not nearly as much as BBC3’s neon pink thing is.

But at least it means 1-in-6 UC viewers are now switching over to us. Before it was less than 1-in-15 which was somewhat disappointing.

The Saturday night slot was always going to beat a Monday night slot as well.

Wow. 😀 Delightful news, and extremely well-deserved. Do you ever find out the Appreciation Index figures as well? I hope that you get the recognition that you firmly merit as a result.

BotherSOP Game 5 details up if you want to register really early (it’s not for another two-and-a-half weeks), Touornament ID: 148752605. And don’t forget the one after is the following week, a bit like European Grand Prixs.

I’m idly thinking about doing ‘Bother’s Bar HORSE Hilarity’ sometime later in the year as a funny experiment.

HORSE makes my head hurt. I’ve not dared try it, anyway, since I’m not very familiar with all the variants, but it looks fun

Nor me! I know the variants, but rarely play non-hold-em, so it strikes me as being quite an amusing thing to have a go at.

“It works like this….across the show the outcome of every exhilarating stunt, game and challenge will give us a number between 0 and 9. Finally, as the show builds to a conclusion, we’ll have a total of five numbers. Together these make up Magic Numbers. And if two of the Magic Numbers match two of the last five digits of your telephone number – in any order. The lucky viewer who is chosen from all those who have qualified to take part, are playing live from home with the chance to win £250,000”

Those are some good odds, there.

Was Talking Telephone Numbers that forgiving with the phone numbers?

In this, having just two numbers from any five opens it out – and with ITV primetime gameshows getting the ‘just off the ground’ viewing figures recently, there’s a good chance everyone watching will have at least two numbers and phone in on the £1 per minute to the ITV trouser pockets premium rate number..

    ..ahh. It makes sense now.

    In other news…

Just when you had thought you had seen the last of Tarrant and his coloured money I noticed while sampling an alcoholic beverage in Wetherspoons earlier they now have ‘The Colour Of Money’ on the ITBox quiz machine!

I had a quick go, you pick a card containing how many points you need, then pick cash machines which bring up between 1 – 3 questions. If you get past the questions you get to do the countdown (countup?) for between 1,000 – 20,000 points.

Obviously I didn’t win but the end game you got to pick so many cash machines for real money (Or something like that).

No mention of Millie, and unlike the Millionaire game no actual VT with Chris.
