Shrove Tuesday

By | February 28, 2017

It’s pancake day! That means it Shrove Tuesday. ‘Shrove’ derives from the word ‘shrive’, absolution through confession, so here’s an episode of Simon Mayo’s Confessions!

Look, our content diary is basically empty until 5 Golden Rings on Sunday.

Actually possibly of interest this week:

Game of Clones on E4 which is a dating show.

The Home Game on ITV daytimes at 3pm with Linda Barker, which sounds like a mildly competitive version of Homes Under The Hammer from the blurb.

And Play to the Whistle is back tonight on ITV.

Three shows that may be of interest but unlikely interesting enough to warrant a post.

“A new twist on the format sees random house robots being sent to attack the competitors if they stray into the wrong part of the arena.”

            Whatever that means

I know there’s a thing where if you hit the Pit Release sometimes it will send the house robot on a rampage instead.

Well, if you want a recording report from Alien Fun Capsule I can oblige. Although there are desks and guests, that’s as close as it gets to being a panel show, there’s no scoring and no winners announced.

That said, there is a What Happens Next bit, and they actually had to break out another clip and record it again at the end of the show because the first clip they used got no laughs at all, it was bit more horrible than funny.

The contrived format of the show is a running gag, though. Basically it’s as close to TV Burp as you can get without it being TV Burp and hence, very entertaining.

Actually one bit they presumably won’t show is when Harry left the set for a minute and then on the monitors they showed a clip of him walking out of the entrance and shouting “We’ve been recording for over an hour and we’ve only done one round!”. Apparently the first recording took three and a half hours, the one I went to didn’t. They did record the bit going in and out of the break at the end, though, Harry saying “We found out that if we did it any earlier, people start getting restless!”.

SRO looking for an audience for a show called Seven Strangers, which sounds precisely like a TV adaptation of The Money. Filming March 12th in Salford if that interests you. Tickets SRO.

“Please note that if you are booking for an AM session there will be two recordings taking place and the expected running time is 7-8 hours. We encourage you to get into the spirit of the show by bringing your own lunch and drinks (non-alcoholic) to the studio! The 4.15pm shows are expected to record for approximately 3-4 hours.”

If there’s nothing better to watch, and if you are into early 90s nudity, there’s the Italian cult gameshow Colpo Grosso. This format has been a wild success in a number of countries, expecially Germany.

It’s very simple: win at gambling games to undress models, or undress yourself to raise more chips. The rules are never explained thoroughly, none was really tuning in for the games 😛

At the end of the show the host said goodbye to two of the girls because they were to leave the program after that episode.

    (NSFW contents, obviously)

Was this the show that became Tutti Fruiti in Germany? The sort of show that used to make international clip shows.

I watched two of the old Tutti Frutti episodes at the end of last year and quite enjoyed it. But then the revival came along and everyone including me hated it. The Cin Cin Ballet was sponsored by Playboy and doing okay, the girls representing countries were not of modern day asthetic (sorry I can’t say it any other way without being insulting, although I don’t want to be) and there were two hosts who didn’t fit. One was Jörg Dräger (German Let’s Make A Deal host and now Strictly participant) who welcomed ex-contestants and people associated with the host for a walk down memory lane. And there was Alexander Wipprecht, young actor and according to him “host”, who hosted the games and talked to the contestants. Critics hated it for not being a homage or a normal episode, but something in between. And the audience just didn’t tune in on any day they tried to show it. It was a one off and they filmed it in a Berlin night club, so the set wasn’t really great.

First ep was an huge ratings success – around 5.4M/27% share which is a level never reached in years for that timeslot. Second ep. felt down to 4.4M 23% share, which is still quite good. TF1 may have found its new hit.

Wenesday/Thursday eps got similar ratings to Tuesday, so I guess it can be called a success (and that you’re going to see local versions spawning everywhere quickly)

          Interesting news, ta.

I think there are worse shows that have been successful, as long as channels temper their expectations.
