Well this is it – the end of Big Brother as we know it. Sons and Daughters, love and laughter, tears of sadness and happiness (and a suicide attempt) all come to a head this evening for the Ultimate Big Brother final.

WHO IS GOING TO WIN? (Brian)

Even though I won’t be online for the show, as uneditable comments on someone else’s website are my witness, prediction for the finishing order: 1) Brian 2) Chantelle 3) Nikki 4) Victor 5) Nick 6) Ulrika 7) Preston.

Not having watched the series (but planning a big UBB marathon at some point) (and similarly, won’t be able to catch all of it this evening) I’d agree with Iain but might possibly swap Chantelle and Nikki around.

And I can edit my comment if it goes stunningly wrong. I’d like Victor and Nick to do well though.

Watching The Final Night purely out of interest.

I’ve got to admit, I’ve always liked Davina, and she looks amazing in that sparkly red dress. The funeral was fun to watch, too – but I had to disagree, though, with what, erm, Father Marcus said about BB being “never dull apart from 4”. What about 9 and 10??!?

I notice on Digital Spy that Brian’s odds are now only 2/7 – having being 1/6 at one stage – while Nikki’s have shortened to 7/2.

Weird new kids’ show on CBBC today: Fee Fi Fo Yum (iPlayer link). Contrived is not the word; it makes Mission: 2110 look like, I don’t know, Top Of The Form. Les Dennis hosts in the ego trip stylee, with at least three pretty overt Family Fortunes allusions that I could count.

So… Les Dennis has been captured by a dumb giant, Brian, and forced to host a game show to entertain Brian and the other viewers of, er, Giant Television. Two teams of five kids, or “Humunchies”, compete, and the giant “eats” the losing team. The game material is not desperately exciting; two contestants work together to remove giant-size peas from giant-size portions of chow mein, teams guess how much food Les will be able to eat in 30 seconds (this time, cocktail sausages, and Les’ consumption of four was less than one third of the lower estimate of two), a mathematical version of the soup bowl game from Incredible Speights and an observation quiz. Game victories earn lifelines of head start time for the final, a latter-day Eliminator (as in the Gladiators finale, not as in the CITV quiz). Contestants run around a small and not very spectacular obstacle course; one wins and frees their team, and one loses and cues the graphical effects of people getting swallowed whole.

There are sporadic fake ad breaks with gross-out humour that supposedly reflects the (lack of) taste of giants, with one particularly off-colour reference snuck in for the older set.

Not very taken by this, to be honest, not least because it might suggest what XXS might turn out like if it weren’t actually very interesting. But it’s certainly not without redeeming features: some cute silly gags, work for Des… er… Les Dennis is always welcome and voice-over by BAH-RI-AN BLESSED, playing firmly to type.

    Perhaps I’m just getting old.

Thank heavens Brian won in the end – I’ve always liked him, and never warmed to Nikki.

And that was quite a montage they put together for Davina – has anyone seen her cry on TV before??

Shame, though, that at no point during the whole evening was Russell Brand seen or mentioned. It’s not like he’s a criminal with the things he probably shouldn’t have done – and he was excellent on Big Mouth.

I thought that was a really nice send off.

If (when) it appears on FIVE, I imagine it will have to be either basically the same or a completely different animal.

If there’s anyone with any sense at Five they’ll return it to basics. 10 people, 1 eviction each week with 3 people in the final. That way it doesn’t eat up ridiculous amounts of schedule time and people don’t end up feeling tired of the series by halfway.

The problem with a three person final is that it makes the last week quite dull. And it’s only happened once. Well twixe if you don’t count BB2’s surprise eviction in the final week, anyway.

Three in the final? Brig’s right, that would be dull. Is the world ready for Competitive Driving Theory Tests again?

Personally, I wouldn’t be averse to a shorter series – 14 enter in mid June, no scheduled replacements, wrap up in late August.

I completely disagree with the view 3-4 in the final week is dull. I remember BB1-BB3 final weeks much more than the recent ones with 5,6 or 7 HMs as they took the show into it’s final stage, forcing the remaining HMs to all get one rather than leaving enough in there to enable them to remain in their cliques.

Also makes nominations more interesting in the weeks leading up if the numbers really are dwindling – with BB11 the final nominations had 10 people still in the house, and 10 people who pretty much got on – so had it run a few weeks longer they’d have got quite interesting when people really had to nominate people they considered their friends.

Anyhow, great send off last night and hope BB is allowed to rest in peace now (rumours are the C5 deal has fallen through, thank god!). Only slight downer is I wish more ex-HMs had been featured in the main show – from 18 series even though 4 previous winners were in the house, a shame only 4 others turned up.

I managed to yet the entire finishing order right on the final night, wish I’d have done an accumulator!

I will sort of miss it, but at the same time I’ll be glad to get the summer back!
