FANTASTIC PRIZES!

By | January 20, 2010

Okay everybody, the details of the BSOP 2010 go up in full tomorrow (as well as the Poll Results – Information Thursday I call it), so I thought you’d like a look at the f-a-a-abulous prizes on offer:

pokertrophy

Ignore the dust, the overall winner recieves £75, the EXCLUSIVE BSOP gold medal (worth AT LEAST 20P AT CASH4GOLD) and the fabulous engraved trophy. The runner-up will get the silver and £45, the third place finisher the bronze and £30.

To get the series off to a rousing start, I’m adding $25 to the prizepool for the first event, a $10+1 tournament happening on Sunday 7th February at 8pm. Future events will be fortnightly, with double-money-double-stack-double-points and the triple-money-super-stack-triple-point grand final special events occuring every fourth game. You will not need to participate in every event to win – only your best seven scoring standard games and highest-scoring special event will count. There will be twelve events in total.

You do not have to be a regular contributor to play – lurkers are very welcome, all I ask is that if you’re not at Full Tilt already please let us refer you for mutual benefit – please give us your details on the BSOP page.

In other news, yesterday night was the first time I felt The Krypton Factor could have done with something… extra.

Swish! I wonder if the same company could do trophies for the Golden Fiver and other UKGS awards. It’ll be fun sending “Worst Game Show of the Year” awards to companies.

Why do we call it the Golden Fiver anyway? We don’t sent £5 off to anyone, and that idea’s been nicked by Popjustice in any case.

Ha ha ha, I’m actually going to address this in the intro. The reason why it’s “Fiver” rather than “Five” is lost in the mists of time, only that it sounded quite good at the time.

Maybe it was because you get five votes. Still, if anyone can come up with a better title, I’m all ears.

Yes… an intelligence round? A response round?

Very impressive prizes, easily more than making up for the absence of cash in the annual vote pot.

I have a suspicion that the added prize money is likely to make participation +EV (PLUS! E! V!) for the hypothetical “average player” – or, rather, that the combined rake taken over all twelve events probably isn’t going to be quite enough to cover the £150 cash and the cost of the shinies.

There was actually no prizes for the voting this year because I read something somewhere that financial incentives of that sort can make it look like work so people are less inclined to do it. I thought I’d test the theory out, we had a few more votes this year than previous. End result: inconclusive.

Poker prizes are higher mainly because I’ve come into a very little bit of money. I will be playing in this league, and am frankly perfectly happy to keep the trophy and big cash for myself 🙂 Don’t get overexcited for 2011, is all I’m suggesting for now.

I also should possibly point out that I don’t get any of the rake, unfortunately, but if enough referrals play enough I should recoup the money through that in the long term. This isn’t so much a business proposition as a vanity one, I think, and I’m fully expecting to win the money back anyway (ho ho!).

    I’m super confused!
So 7 out of 9 regular events will count
But only 1 out of 3 “special” events?
    Is that right?

Brig can you send me a referral? I think I changed my address and credit card since playing Full Tilt, so they’ll NEVER KNOW. Unless they read this, of course.

Sure thing, I need to know the address you’d like to sign up with.

You’ve read it exactly right. If you play in all 12 events, only your strongest scoring seven $10 events plus strongest $20 or $30 special event score will count. The rules may change next year depending on how this one goes.

Edited to add: Although if you just play the $10 events, you can count one of those as your eighth game as well.

Potential points in each event will depend on how many people turn up, so there are exciting external factors that might come into play.

Krypton did feel a little washed out yesterday but I think a lot of that was down to it being completely 1-sided. I doubt Intelligence would’ve fixed that as the faux-modest git would’ve likely won that as well, making his win even more decisive.
