Run for Money

Basically, I’ve spent most of today exploring old episodes of Run For Money on Youtube (of which there are several). I’m really, really hoping this guy who uploaded the full recent episode as linked to yesterday is doing it in some sort of official capacity, because this morning it looks like he’s uploaded some really, really old episodes, which don’t seem to have any missions in them (in fact by the looks of a translated Wikipedia article, it’s the first non-pilot ep here) – just Shibuya, nine runners, four hunters and 50 minutes on the clock. So it’s been interesting watching what’s on offer and seeing the evolution the show has taken since 2004. The early episode is more “pure”, but I think the later episodes with the twists and turns are more entertaining.

So ignore Cha$e, my proposition would be do to this as a monthly thing at various locations in the UK (Alton Towers, Lakeside Shopping Centre, Milton Keynes), get 15 contestants, but also allow anyone who survived the previous Run to Run again and give the show its mythology, £50k top prize (not massive massive, but you might need to pay more than one person and they’ll get to Run again) and I think you’ve got the potential of a great event show, here.

make the top prize £50k, but only if all missions are completed successfully i.e. penalise failures with either more hunters or less money, or even both!

The only thing is, we’d probably end up with “Celebrity Hunters”, especially if it was on ITV. As in the actual Hunters being celebrities, which would ruin it. I like the fact that the Hunters don’t have a personality or anything. Actually, they’re pretty much just robots. It adds to the ‘danger’/atmosphere. Anonymous Men-in-Black Hunters, clever missions and all the variations would = GREAT show.

Adding to the list of possible locations in the UK; maybe some castles/Tower of London too. They’d be good for story episodes, having a king/servants to do missions for.
The possibilities! If only someone would pick it up.

Actually I think they’ll stay away from celebrity hunters, because you could very easily do this with a mixture of celebrity and civilian contestants.

Greetings from New York City. I stopped by the NBC studios yesterday for a tour… There was no “Minute to Win It” merchandise on sale. I’m not sure whether or not to be surprised. It’s not like they could really sell a home game, when half of the game is “made from everyday household objects![/catchphrase]” Plenty of “Deal or No Deal” stuff in the clearance section though.

I’ve got a gut feeling that the Germans would put sufficient time and money in to do this show really well, and I’m not sure of a British broadcaster who would give it enough time, while devoting sufficient resources to permit the show to be made as sumptuously as it needs, in order to do it justice. Maybe Channel 4 might give it a go if they can spin it as event television, along the lines of the dominance they permitted Big Brother over their schedules, if Drop The Million proves to be the wrong show but they want to give event television game shows another try.
