It’s Schlag den Star on Saturday

We’ll probably update this Elton photo if he moves channel

It’s only been a fortnight since the last one, and this one might be *extra* intriguing as it’s come out this morning that Raab/Brainpool will be moving some of their shows to rival network RTL, including TV Total spin-off Blamerien oder Kassieren and Schlag den Besten, both of which set to be hosted by face of Pro7 and Eurovision vote giver Elton. What if anything is going to happen? We’re currently discussing the situation in #deutschechat in the Discord, and we’ll be watching Schlag den Star on Saturday night where Niram Farooq will be taking on Rebecca Mir for Elton’s €100,000 briefcase. Will he have many more €100,000 briefcases to give away on Pro7? Who knows!

The long and short of the speculation on the Discord thus far is: is Raab a bit upset with the attention Joko and Klaas have been getting? It sounds like the reworkings of the shows he’s taking over to RTL are quite J and K-esque.

Grand Slam is 20? NO WAY.

I still wonder if it was *always* the intention for it to run for one series only, bearing in mind that Vorders said more often than not that the champion would be “the greatest television quiz player of all time” (or words to that effect), and that some of the format’s flaws could have been corrected during the series but weren’t (especially the one where switched questions could be switched straight back).

I still wonder, too, if James Richardson – brilliant as he is – got the analyst’s role at least partly because Channel 4 wanted him to retain a presence on the station after the Italian football went elsewhere. (I still remember when there was a video of the final on YouTube – uploaded by Brig himself, I believe – and I commented on this video, “James must have some enthusiasm for quiz shows” with another user cheekily replying, “Or for Carol”. 😉 )
