HAPPY PROPER TENTH BIRTHDAY BIG BROTHER! Today ten years ago, the first set of housemates went into the original Big Brother house in Bow. Ah, great days.

In more important news, doubtless everyone reading this will be familiar with Nickelodeon GUTS, the kids sports challenge gameshow that was popular (in the States) in the early nineties, and was shown on Nickelodeon in the UK. Well Digital Spy report that host Mike O’Malley is being given a permanent cast role in popular singing drama series thing Glee. Who knew? I hope he gets to shout a lot. Apparently Moira Quirk is going to join next season. (*)

I promise to stop commenting on Digital Spy stories for the rest of the week.

(*) Not a funny joke, but excellently alienating to 95% of Bother’s Bar’s target audience.

Also of note is that he’s up for an Emmy (as “guest actor”) for his work this season.

This is either the best thing to happen to Mike O’Malley or the worst thing to happen to Glee, I’m not sure which yet. Glee is ridiculously popular here in the states (or I hang around with too many music majors), so he’ll either get a lot out of this gig or blow it all pretty hugely. In the meantime, I’ll continue to think of a joke involving the phrase “Do You (blank) It?” so everyone can then grunt “OOH!” afterwards.

Moira Quirk seems to be doing well.

I hadn’t realised that he was playing a character already! This is great news, his character was brilliantly written and one of the brilliant little high points of the first season series, so the more appearances the better. Then perhaps he can host another game show, to complete the host-actor-host hopscotch that would make him the American John Barrowman! Oh, wait…

Jocelyn Hattab, the creator of El Gran Juego de L’Oca was recently interviewed by an Italian blog (he’s directing Chain Reaction here right now), and there he said he’s working at a revival of Oca.

His plan is to have several nations tape their version in the same studio in order to share the costs.

according to Jocelyn “right now there’s a 30% chance of seeing Oca on the air again”

I don’t suppose you can tell me what Italian game shows are airing at the moment as I’m trying to find TV listings but it’s been hard since Gameshowkult jacked in the website.

well, only Chain Reaction is airing new episodes, others are in rerun mode

all times are Italian (should be 1 hour away)

        RAI1 6:50 Chain Reaction
        CANALE5 6:50 1vs100 (rerun)
ITALIA1 8:30 Mercante in Fiera (rerun)

Mercante in Fiera is a unusual kind of rerun:
the episode is introduced by the show’s model Ainette Stephens (the “Black Cat”), who pretends to be her twin sister (the “White Cat”)

The story is that she wanted to be the model, but her sister was picked instead. She’s envious of this, but all she can do is inviting us people at her place to watch the show on TV.

Just before the final segment of the rerun, Ainette hosts a (new) miniature version of Mercante for kids.

the weird thing is that Pino Insegno is the host of both Chain Reaction and Mercante 😀 talk about self competition!

So Big Brother is ten. It only seems like a year since they were celebrating their tenth birthday!
