Royal Wedding Friday

Wicked.

Obviously for the great day there’s only one choice: The Grand Knockout Tournament from 1987. The entire thing was up on YouTube at one point but unforutnately it looks like it has been removed. Happily some clips remain. I still reckon at least Wills and Harry would be well up for a remake:

Meanwhile it looks like Channel 5’s illusion-based game Impossible? begins May 12th (that’s a Thursday) at 10pm.

A question for Cele the Ref if he is reading this.

I had the impression Affari Tuoi was axed last year but surprised to see it airing tonight whilst Euro channel hopping. Did Rai Uno change their mind or did I imagine the axing?

      No, it was axed.

They’ve probably realised they can’t do without it. Same host as the previous run though.

it WAS supposed to be axed, but it entered “just one more season” mode (which means it’ll last for five more seasons for sure)

The Going for Gold syndrome then. Thanks Cele the Ref.

O_O The German Millionaire set is incredibly strange, for some reason.

Yet after 10 & 1/2 years the show still airs twice a week in primetime and STILL uses the 15 question format and the original music cues.

Mmm, I think this loses something in translation so far, at least without a proper idea of the contestants’ personalities it’s difficult to get too involved.

Did they honestly begin their series with a contestant defeated? Nice one Germany. Show them The Cube isn’t to be messed with.

Actually it’s not even a series. Tonight’s show is a one-off special/pilot, whatever you look at it. Which is why it’s two hours. They have recorded five-six shows in London this month, so provided the first special takes off then there will be more. Italy will also be applying the same concept soon.

Is this really our set? I don’t remember there being so many splits in the glass. Maybe they paint those out in post in the UK version? They haven’t got the lighting as good as our version either.

It’s definitely the same swt at Fountain Studios. Worth pointing out that the current UK series that is airing now was recorded in January. German Cube was recorded about a fortnight ago. Also this is a joint production between Objective a couple of German firms. It could be they changed the lighting just for the German version (and any potential versions) but yes, no where as good as ours.

Er, what was that spoilerific highlights package all about?

          4. Travis P

As mentioned. Tonight’s show is to test to water to see how the show performs but they’ve recorded around 5-6 shows recently. So I suppose it could mean either two hour specials now and again or a weekly series in the summer to fill the 7.15pm held by Wer Wird Milionair.

It can’t be testing the water *that* much since, if they were going to wait to see what this outing’s ratings are like, they wouldn’t have done that highlights package.
