Show Me The Funny

By | July 18, 2011

Completely forgot this was on, saw it from halfway though, decided that comedians just aren’t very funny. One or two things though, from looking at the bios online:

  • Cole Parker, correct me if I’m wrong, fronted a gambling round the world show for Challenge TV  Bravo about 10 years ago, the name of which escapes me (GO GO BOTHER’S BAR HIVEMIND)?
  • Patrick Monahan! Now where have we seen that name before? On the 9th of September 2009.

Can anyone spot any other interesting connections?

It was called The Ultimate Gambler and it was on Bravo. 15 eps.

“Warm-up act is likeable Middlesborough bloke Patrick Monaghan.”

        Tsk, tsk.

‘Likeable’ would be stretching it massively.

I had the misfortune to see him warm up for both Golden Balls and For The Rest Of Your Life within a few days of each other in 2007 – same jokes both evenings, and sadly, none of them very funny…a pretty irritating bloke.

I didn’t think he was that bad at the time. It was a pretty dire evening though.

It was a Teesside tutting; the town containing the ‘Boro football team spells its name -b-r-o-u-g-h. We can’t spell.

It is fair to say this pretty much bombed last night, 2.6m (2m under the slot average, apparently).

Pointless is now peaking at over 3m.

Incidentally I’ve just been informed the proper name for Minute to Win It UK is Spots vs Stripes Minute To Win It and I’ve been offered chocolate. Yum.

TAR Australia got picked up for another season- it’s apparently been doing really well despite lousy lead-ins…

Averaging about 1.2m. Not brilliant brilliant, but anything that gets over a million is doing well, generally speaking.

      I’m happy for them.

Given the productions costs must be similar for The Amazing Race regardless of its route (a terrible assumption, I know, but bear with me), this should provide evidence of viability for a UK Amazing Race given it would likely get more than 1m viewers.

        Does anyone agree? Discuss.

It should do but Aussie TV viewing figures are very small over there. Over 1 million over there is like 4/5 million here, which is respectable but many shows get around 1 million. That’s why the popularity of Masterchef Austrlia is the same to The X Factor and Britian’s Got Talent. When the final result had over 5 million, it was like a show here getting over 20 million viewers.
