Show Discussion: Celebrity Big Brother 2011

By | August 18, 2011

9pm, Channel 5

Aww, I wish I was going to be able to update this on a proper computer this evening (as it is I’ll probably be playing along on Twitter), but you can leave any comments on the CBB Launch this evening (and also Bit On The Side) here if you want.

Alright, because we often get hits for “who’s on Big Brother”, the roll call is this:

  • Troubled ex-Kitten and Queen of the Jungle Kerry Katona.
  • Troubled US actress and socialite Tara Reid.
  • The hard one from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding Paddy Doherty.
  • Vajazzle queen from The Only Way is Essex Amy Childs.
  • Paparazzi king and Aussie Dragon Darryn Lyons.
  • Wife of the Speaker of the House of Commons Sally Bercow.
  • Coronation Street and Waterloo Road actor Lucien Laviscount.
  • Baywatch babe and David’s ex-wife Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff.
  • Model Bobby Sabel.
  • Jedward.

Strong rumours that someone else will be entering the house tonight (writing this on Friday).

    Don’t you mean 2011, Brig?!
(Unless I’m missing some gag I’m not aware of – in which case, ignore me!)

I think you’ll find we’re so ahead of the game we’re already speculating on next year’s one.

I think it’s a good mix of characters and as predicted Brian was fine, likely to be great when he relaxes a bit.

It’s a shame Katona got the first task (would have been funnier if it was anyone else), BB being insidious has never sat right with me.

There we go, figures flying around suggesting between 5.0m and 5.2m, with a peak of 6m. They’ll be pleased with that, BUT CAN THEY HOLD ON TO IT? 1.8m for Bit on the Side, which as a show got better as it progressed I think.

Hilarious rumours suggesting it will be Dick n Dom in Da BB House this evening.

If they’re allowed to bring in some Creamy Muck Muck, I’m so watching.

22% share which was higher than the previous Celebrity Big Brother launch 😀

Good share but will it last or will be like Joey?

Ratings are expected to drop after launch, like every other series. Over 1.5m nightly would be fantastic for Channel 5.

I think it will get about 3m tonight, then drop to 2-2.5m nightly.

The intrigue is seeing how the new “casually” edited shows go down. I guess we’ll know on Saturday.

Desmond gave an Interview to Broadcast saying that there would be real disappointment if it fell under 2m.

Rumours suggest it is Bobby Brown, who was said to be too drunk to appear last night.

Some additional thoughts on Big Brother, day 4053.

    * Those break bumpers are going to get very annoying, very quickly.
    * Squinting a lot I get a distinct feeling of Noah’s Ark: two singers of dubious quality, two hunky blokes, two celebrity wives, two people from other reality shows. Plus him off of Deadline and her off of American Pie.
    * Who issued the crowd with “hand-made” signs. “Sally for PM”? No-one’s supposed to know who goes in, still less bring along cardboard-and-marker constructions.
    * Jedward will either be out at the first opportunity, or they’ll win. I hope they win.
    * Some things don’t change, like the wonderful camerawork. Loved the shot of Bobby and Brian from below, showing the rain in the spotlights, casting light on the sheer pointlessness of the whole exercise.
    * Some things do change. Brian feels like he’s speaking as a member of the audience, a trick Davina lost while I wasn’t watching.
    * A provisional figure of 5.1m is above my expectations, so hats off. From this start, I would hope for an average around the weekly top ten, just over 1.5m.
    * The Week feels duty-bound to write about this show, probably in early September.
    * Those break bumpers are very annoying.

should favour jedward i would suspect, always thought a vote to save system would be far more advantageous to the show, as it should keep in the love/hate contestants longer, making for a better show?

3.2m last night, which is basically in line in terms of Day 1 to Day 2 percentage drops. Weekends have tradutionally been ratings low points for BB but they perk up again during the week so this week will be interesting.
