I can’t wait for the weekend to begin!

By | February 23, 2012

OK. Once again I’m out on both Friday and Saturday night like some BLOODY interminable T4 presenter or something, so I shall remind you to keep discussion of this weekend’s The Bank Job episodes to the relevant post.

Also of interest this weekend the first of a primetime run of Pointless Celebrities, Saturday at 6:15 on BBC1. Then on Sunday we are playing a fun and free game of 2-7 Triple Draw, and you are welcome to join us.

Who’s on Pointless celbrities, do we know?

I mean if it’s anyone off of TOWIE then it really WOULD be pointless!

*sigh* Biggins just HAS to get his mug everywhere, doesn’t he?

The €1,524,000 Pasapalabra jackpot goes tonight. Kudos to Telecinco for keeping it a secret.

A question for the stats folk:

A picture of a celebrity has 6 tiny squares covering it. 3 are on the face while the other 3 are on useless bits of scenery. The Maitre gets 3 questions correct and 3 squares of the picture are revealed. What are the odds of all 3 scenery squares being picked at random?

      I’d presume (3/6) x (2/5) x (1/4) = 6/120 aka 1/20. Or 5%, if you’re that way inclined. Unlikely but not impossible.

And, of course, exactly the same probability of all three face squares being picked.

My D in A level Statistics, there.

And just because I did the long way written on an envelope…

Imagine all 6 squares are labelled 1-6. Also imagine that (for convenience) the scenery squares are 1, 2 and 3. Now we can write all combinations of 3 squares from this given that there’s so few…
        123 124 125 126 134 135 136 145 146 156 234 235 236 245 246 256 345 346 356 456

(remember this is combinations not permutations, so things like 321 aren’t necessary and would only pad things out)

There is only one all-scenery combination here, the first, out of 20. Assuming each possibility has an equal chance of occurring, then that’s a 1/20 chance as calculated more elegantly by Brig.

But since we have every combination written down, we may as well count up and calculate the other possibilities:

        All scenery: 1/20 = 5%
        Two scenery: 9/20 = 45%
        One scenery: 9/20 = 45%
        No scenery: 1/20 = 5%

So while it’s not out of the question to get all scenery or all useful, it’s obviously far more likely to get a partly useful outcome in 3 reveals.

That is a surprise- there was an article out that said it had been won, but it had next week as when it would be hit…saw the video of it, the look on his face was priceless.

Oh well I don’t mind a bit of Biggins!

At least with his history in television he can still genuinely be called a celebrity – unlike the TOWIE’s….

    Vajazzle anyone?

Apropos of nothing, I’ve only just noticed someone on The Chase deliberately play badly in the cash builder and storm the main round. Is this the first time it’s happened?

Is there any evidence she deliberately played the cash builder badly? Admittedly, she did incorrectly answer some things which should be simple (like diamond instead of quartz), but that could easily be due to the pressure of the time limit, and a lack of multiple choice. Similarly, she could have guessed some multiple choice ones correctly.

Also the Austrians have sent a group called Trackshittaz to Eurovision. How are they going to get away with THAT on BBC1 at 8:30?

Oh wait, that’s why, they have no hope in hell of qualifying.

But if they did – you could hoover up at the bookies for the ‘who will the UK give the 12 points to’ bet..

Pointless got off to a good start in the ratings last night with 4.7m. Whilst the rugby will have inflated it a bit I see no reason why it can’t settle down at about 4m like Celebrity Chase did. It was even within a million of Let’s Dance For Sport Relief. Last night’s gameshow ratings in full (+1 included where applicable):

    Let’s Dance: 5.6m
    Take Me Out: 5.3m
    Who Dares Wins: 5.2m
    Pointless Celebrities: 4.7m
    All Star Family Fortunes: 4.2m
    The Bank Job: 1.3m

The Bank Job is creeping up slightly but still too low. Let’s Dance is down this year and in turn WDW is a bit off too (compared to previous episodes that haven’t clashed with Cowell). Take Me Out rating well whilst Pointless wins the 6pm hour clash.
