The Million Pound Drop Recorded

By | July 11, 2014

Not much different other than Davina can’t go “well done to people in Scotland who did best on that question”. They’ve updated the clock graphic but the refresh rate is hugely irritating. They’ve beefed up the swish of the dropping trays. As pointed out on Twitter, there were no “which of these things happened first” questions.

Yep.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who was riled by the new clock. It annoyed me far more than it should have done.

The questions continue to revolve around immediate current affairs/social media as the live show did, but by the time of transmission, it’s old and forgotten about…

I like MPD and was rather looking forward to it, but with it not being live, and being on so much earlier than it used to be, it just felt really flat to me. I wonder why they made this decision? Being LIVE with real money where ‘anything can happen’ was MPD’s thing, wasn’t it?

As for why it isn’t live, fully expect that to be a budgeting constraint for a show that rarely pulls a million these days to get the commission – three days in the studio, done.

But being on 2.5 hours earlier than usual, it should do a bit better than that, no?

The ratings I get include +1 and HD and unfortunately don’t give me how that’s broken down. I’ve got an average of 1,087,000 with this fifteen minute breakdown:

        989,000
        1,112,000
        1,134,000
        1,113,000

Incidentally my ratings have MasterChef the same as the DS article, but all other channels between 50k and 250k higher, which suggests it’s the +1 which is accounting for the difference.

And MPD was 2nd in the slot in 16-34 year olds, which demonstrates one reason they keep bringing it back despite not doing the business it used to.

How many viewers did Tipping Point Lucky Stars get yesterday? Jonathan ross is a clever man.

I don’t think the ideas behind it are that bad, but it certainly has some of pacing and direction issues. Nice set.
