Is this the greatest 24 minutes of live television this year?

By | October 25, 2015

If you didn’t watch Schlag den Raab last night and didn’t follow along with our commentary, this is the hardest I’ve laughed at a TV show all year. It has everything. It involves a sit-down Segway thing called Freee which Raab and contestant Markus are going to race around the studio lot.

And on the off chance you want to listen to our LIVE reactions, have this playing at the same time, it’s in roughly the right place.

I shall list the reasons why it’s amazing under a cut so you can watch it unspoiled if you want.

In no particular order:

  • The hostess Corinna and Stephen clearly love it and Stephen clearly wants to conduct the rest of the show sitting on one.
  • The track is pretty standard for a SdR race, a couple of corners and and a hairpin, but the turn back into the studio seems much tighter than normal and it’s noticed that they seemed to have put extra padding up…
  • Stefan crashes his Freee on the practice lap on a hairpin and manages to break it. Handily they have another spare, but he’s told that if he breaks it he loses.
  • As predicted Stefan bodyslams into the wall several times, on one occasion the medic has to come out for a cut lip. Stephen wastes no time in hosts capacity driving it around the studio whilst Raab is being tended to.
  • The final race, Raab basically crashes it again going round the hairpin.
  • Finally when the game is ended it looks like the segway has gone out of control and doesn’t stop until he crashes into the contestant podium.
  • Incredible.

The final score, by my count:

    Markus: 3
    Barriers: 2
    Entryway: 2
    Floor: 1
    Wall: 1
    Stefan: 0

Love that they played the “guess the country from the outline that is slowly being drawn” game again; don’t love that they forgot to add Tasmania to the map of Australia.
