The Chase Family Edition

By | June 14, 2016

This might be a fun idea, ITV looking for families to take part in family editions of The Chase.

You can apply here, players need to be 16 or over and they want several generations ideally. You’ve got until October to register interest, so it will be a while before we see how it affects the team dynamic.

Looking at the application site, it seems that teams might only be three players this time around (the brief says teams of four, 3 players and a backup.) Trying to bring it in line with US Chase?

I had to read it twice but no, the four potential members PLUS you. I can’t see them using the US format seeing as a) the UK broadcast hour is longer and b) they don’t seem to be making it anymore.

Heh. Wow, I can read. Still, it raises the interesting question of how they’re going to deal with the extra fluff (read: padding) involved with bringing the entire family, with all the stories that that entails, because there’s enough of that anyway. And, there’s another thing – usually, the money gets split between the surviving players, but what if a husband and wife are playing with, say an aunt? The husband and wife couple either get more money if both survive, and less if only one does.

I would imagine being a family they’ll split it as a family, which potentially makes the decisions at the table a bit more interesting.

Wouldn’t surprise me if this was destined for similar time slot(s) as when All Star Family Fortunes used to be on

On a unrelated note, has ‘The Cube’ being quietly put to bed?

I wouldn’t say it’s gone particularly quietly, if memory serves me correctly the last series was burnt on Wednesday nights opposite Bake Off, but yes I think it’s gone.

Always thought it be interesting to see how a family (or group) splitting the prize affects decisions. Probably make people play safer though I’d imagine.
