This is mildly exciting

By | September 13, 2011

Noel Edmonds announced on This Morning that Deal or No Deal will be going live for a fortnight in due course. They’ve probably nicked this from The Million Pound Drop, etc.

I don’t know how it’s going to work – two weeks of randoms or will they continue from where they left off their last recording break?

Edit: Sounds like randoms.

Board of Excitement: 12th – 17th September 2011

By | September 12, 2011

Well it’s both very warm and blowing a gale out, so you might as well stay in and watch telly:

  • Only Connect – Fantasy Footballers vs Antiquarians. I’m planning on putting a team together based solely around the fact we have aliterating names. (8:30pm, Monday, BBC4)
  • Minute to Win It (8pm, Tuesday, ITV2)
  • 71 Degrees North – With new hosts Paddy McGuinness and Charlotte Jackson out in Norway. There’s “Norway” I’m going to miss this!!!! (9pm, Tuesday, ITV1)
  • Survivor: South Pacific – New series. Ozzy and Coach return. (Wednesday, CBS)
  • Schlag den Star – Guido Cantz, who hosted Deutsche Deal or No Deal. (7:15pm, Thursday, Pro Sieben)
  • Epic Win – Intriguingly followed by Celebrity Masterchef. (5:30pm, Saturday, BBC1)
  • Schlag den Raab – Episode 30 and €1.5m to be defended. It seems a bit odd having this and Schlag den Star in the same week, but there we are. (7:15pm, Saturday, Pro Sieben)

Show Discussion: Holding Out For a Hero

By | September 11, 2011

7pm, ITV1

We’ll do Board of Excitement tomorrow, because tonight it’s the first episode of Gethin Jones fronted good causes quiz Holding Out For a Hero which you are free to discuss here.

In it three people surprise three other people who run good causes that they’re going to play a quiz for them to try and win them some money.

We went to the pilot recording of this all the way back at the beginning of March. It looks like it’s gone from being an anticipated 45 minute show to a 60 minute show, but it is the lead in to The X Factor this evening so it has the best opportunity.

Saturday Night’s Alright for Writing 10th September 2011

By | September 10, 2011

Blimey.

  • Epic Win – 5:25pm, BBC1
  • All Star Family Fortunes – 6:05pm, ITV1. This week it’s Joe McElderry vs Jo Joyner.
  • Strictly Come Dancing Launch Show – 6:10pm, BBC1
  • Red or Black? – 7pm and 9:15pm, ITV1. Last in the series, and will probably get a fillip given that a) it’s again scheduled around The X Factor and b) One Direction are on tonight and it’s already trending.
  • Secret Fortune – 8pm, BBC1
  • The X Factor – 8:15pm, ITV1.
  • The Million Pound Drop – Live! 9:15pm, C4. Tonight featuring Vernon Kay!

And that’s all the weather!

Dara O Briain’s University of Practical Mathematics has been picked up for an eight-week run on Dave. In it, people are challenged to solve problems – O Briain using his mathematical background and a special guest trying more practical methods.

Based on a Japanese Beat Takeshi format (Comăneci University Mathematics, apparently) we’ll try and find some Youtube clippage over the weekend (although don’t get too excited).

It’s our favourite Irish TV house Wild Rover co-production.

Dead or Black

By | September 9, 2011

3.8m and 4.1m for Red or Black? last night.

It is only fair we do a graph later.

Quite enjoyed the Celeb Big Brother final last night, if you hadn’t gathered the new civilian housemates will be joining Baywatch star Pamela Anderson this evening.
