This is mildly exciting

By | September 13, 2011

Noel Edmonds announced on This Morning that Deal or No Deal will be going live for a fortnight in due course. They’ve probably nicked this from The Million Pound Drop, etc.

I don’t know how it’s going to work – two weeks of randoms or will they continue from where they left off their last recording break?

Edit: Sounds like randoms.

Out of all the shows this might make a real difference to, in terms of the way the programme feels, I wouldn’t have put Deal high on that particular list – it’s always had a fairly ‘as-live’ feel to it anyway, hasn’t it, with the heavy day referencing and unobvious editing.

Further to that, are they planning on giving it a longer timeslot, or putting a clock on how long people have to make a decision on any particular deal? Could be fairly laborious if not.

I remember having to explain to my dad when they repeated Countdown the contestants hadn’t come in again to play the game.

Caught the interview with Noel on +1. It’s going to be in the regular time slot and apparently the people who will be playing don’t know yet. Noel will be going into their “homes, workplaces, supermarkets” and surprising them. I don’t know how these people will be chosen though. I’m assuming he’s not just going to wander into any random building and pull someone out.

DOND live shows will be in the regular tea-time slots (have audience ticket and asked to be there for 2.30pm)

(If Mr Hughil is reading this, you can have my idea in the last two paragraphs for free)

There will have to be some kind of time limit imposed on those that take the walk of wealth to make sure the show runs to it’s 56 odd minute berth in the C4 schedules.

Personally, I would have pre-recorded the show on day of transmission around 1hr before transmission, before coming back to do the last part live. That way Endemol (or BBC Resources) can edit down some of the more ‘ponderous’ offers.

Failing that if it is live, then to make sure it runs to time, a thumbscrew will have to be put in place to make sure the live show clears off by 5, and doesn’t end sometime around the end of the +1 repeat should.

Therefore, everytime Noel has to politely but firmly ask the contestant to ‘hurry up and say they are ready for the question’ beyond the normal thinking time and banter…

..At the next phonecall, the banker reduces what he would have offered by £1,000 per ‘ready for the question’ from Noel.

Presumably if they’re running out of time on a round, Noel just has to in force a ‘£20,000 Deal or no Deal?’.

If they don’t have regular box openers on the wings (which it seems likely they won’t), they can probably reduce all the banter between Noel and the wings and concentrate on the mechanics of the game.

Will probably make a less entertaining show as sometimes the banter makes the show but I can see it working – if anyone can deal with a live show, Noel can after years of doing House Party.

Or go the US route and have 22 glamourous models (or failing that, 22 Z-listers) to open the boxes 😀

        A brilliant episode, that, featuring c4countdown’s Ryan Taylor… 😉

And Joe, I thought Paul Sinha himself told you off for your unfounded criticism of him? 😕

I didn’t criticise anyone with my above comment, did I Des 😉 ?

I only asked because ITV Player for the episode wasn’t working. So was just curious…
