Little Big Bother’s Bar

By | July 8, 2011

It is my 30th birthday tomorrow, and look at what a very good friend did!

You can click on it for a bigger version. Plainly, amazing – a vision in cross stitch.

Things to do this weekend:

  • The ever-reliable Poochy.EXE has linked to the new version of Dasshutsu Game DERO! (TORE!) that’s now doing the rounds, it’s meant to have more of an Indiana Jones-y feel. It’s still quite good fun, but I’m not feeling it as much as I did the original – the blocks aren’t as good as the retracting beams, for example. You can watch the first episode here.
  • If you watch Fort Boyard this weekend, add your comments to the existing thread. Greg has found a free way round the international restrictions. I’m not going to get to watch it until Monday. Kiddy Boyard starts recording this week. We’re still guessing the format, here’s the Zodiak press release if you missed it earlier.
  • It sounds like Nick Hancock is about to start fronting a new BBC2 daytime quiz called Breakout. Basic premise is five people work together to win and share a prize by progressing down a 30-space track. Contestants can also opt to go for glory by striking out on their own. WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN? The set is 100-ft long, apparently.

Empty Win

By | July 6, 2011

I might be reading a bit too much into this but I’ve had an e-mail from SRO asking if I want more tickets for Epic Win – it sounds like they’re a bit slow to be taken up.

75% of recordings I go to were very little fun whatsoever. Epic Win did not fall into that category, so if you’re free on upcoming weekends and fancy a free evening out in London, there are many worse things you could be doing. And the SRO Bloke will probably call you very sexy, which is the kind of customer service you just don’t get from Applause Store.

The details and booking form are here.

Amateur Adventure Hour

Yeah, you all thought I wasn’t going to return to this didn’t you? Well you were wrong. AND HOW! This week something I found whilst looking for something else: Orbidome, some machinma created through Halo 3:

It’s not always easy to follow, although the 3D Maze and remote control football games are probably the best ones. Machinma’s fun, although we prefer real life stuff, obviously.

Board of Excitement 3rd July – 9th July 2011

Obviously if you hadn’t realised, the planned game of HORSE that was due to go ahead this evening has had to be postponed because of the site hosting it being suspended. I therefore urge you all to join Brig’s Poker Club (yes, it’s to the theme of Rolf’s Cartoon Club) IF YOU DARE and we’ll get a game up and running soon.

In the meantime:

  • Pointless – I’m very pleased that Xander and Richard have had a promotion to BBC1 as this is certainly my pick of the current crop of daytime quizzes. With a French version incoming, I’m interested to see how it translates, because it is fair to say that a large part of the appeal of the Brit version is the hosts. (5:15pm, Monday-Friday, BBC1)
  • The Amazing Race Australia – We must be due another non-elimination leg soon. (Seven Network, Monday)
  • Fort Boyard 2010 – This is, like, so last year. (8:06pm, Monday, TV5)
  • 101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow (ABC, Tuesday)
  • The Challenge: The Rivals (MTV US, Wednesday)
  • Fort Boyard 2011 – Some discussion of it here. I hope episode two is a bit easier to find than episode one. (7:35pm UK, France 2, Saturday)
  • It’s my 30th birthday – I’m not going to be here for it. (Saturday)

Show discussion: Fort Boyard France 2011

By | July 2, 2011

Well this is very, VERY exciting because I wasn’t expecting to be writing this at all given last year’s response. However the one true version of Fort Boyard appears to be back on screens this evening on France 2 at 8:35pm (7:35 UK time) for the series premiere, starring lots of old Miss Frances and a man.

The exciting thing is I don’t know how easy it’s going to be to watch outside of France. Happily last year they put new episodes up on the website for a fortnight which you could view internationally but there’s no guarantees they’ll do it this year. It will be on pluzz.fr, but not outside of France (anyone coming up with a cheap way around it get’s 20 Botherpoints, although I will pay to use a proxy if necessary). Maybe someone will stream it live on Justin.tv, like with Schlag den Raab, although I wouldn’t be getting my hopes up. And anyway, I’m not going to get the chance to watch it until tomorrow anyway, so.
