Interesting idea in theory, but defeats the whole purpose of the show…

BB US theme this year is “double trouble”. 3 duos from former seasons will return, rumoured to be Evel Dick and Daniele (BB8), Jordan and Jeff (BB11) and Brendon and Rachel (BB12).

Not a surprise – although a quick look through the schedules of 5* reveals that BB Live showing bored people shouting, smoking and scratching their armpits for 15 hours a day, would be slightly more entertaining than the usual drivel that channel shows.

Curious to see what these ‘Facebook Credits’ that the DS report aludes to. I wonder if it a way of paying for the abillity to vote on facebook?

Ahh – that would be another revenue stream dreamt up by Channel 5 and Emdemol UK designed to extract the maximum amount of loose change out of it’s diehard, loyal viewers.

pretty sure facebook credits is already a thing for buying stuff on facebook. probably a joint venture, as nobody uses facebook credits at the moment as far as i know!

Ooh, harsh. Absolutely fair, completely accurate, but harsh.

Channel 5’s digital strategy has always been mind-bogglingly poor. The original owners, UBM, were granted half of a DTTV multiplex when it launched in 1998, and promptly leased it to OnDigital for their pay-per-view movie service, which proved a spectacular failure. Channel 5 got sold to RTL group, who eventually got their space back and launched Five Life in 2006, showing a mixture of imported tat (Home and Away), repeated tat (Footballers’ Wives), and imported repeated tat (Dawson’s Creek).

To try and distract attention away from the tatty programmes, they relaunched as Fiver in 2008, and the new imported repeated tat (Sex and the City) was outshone by the continuity announcers. Yet another rename to “5*” this March, and such was the success of the channel that it reduced its broadcasting hours from 15 a day to 11.

Big Brother is going to make or break this 5* channel. There is a precedent for BB doing good things; for its first few years, E4 could only attract viewers when it was showing Big Brother coverage. But that’s a ten-year-old story, and Big Brother isn’t as popular as it was. On the other hand, I suspect the revenue from showing long hours of Live Big Brother will be greater than from selling the airtime to teleshopping.

They do Facebook voting on the German version, guess it is being adapted to bring here also.

I wonder whether that’s a wise decision, not to have an online live feed. While BB’s not always had the feed, I think it’s perceived to be an integral part.

Still, hopefully the UKBB format will get a tweak or two. I’m certainly looking forward to USBB.

Except that it never was intended to be integral. And most of the fuss is from the redtops who now miss their deadlines for the early editions, having to wait to see the edited programme for their gossip.

While I probably agree with the assessment of where most of the complaints about the absense of it it comes from – I’m surprised it wasn’t considered integral originally. To me the concept of ‘near constant live coverage’ seems to be a natural, logical and obvious extension of the show’s premise.

I broadly agree with this, this is certainly what all the media commentary about the show before it was broadcast here concentrated on.

Wasn’t it threatened for BB 8 or 9 to not have the online stream either, but then they brought it back for whatever reason? Or am I remembering this completely wrongly?

Yes. This is why I should have read the article before posting. Apologies, Brig.

Zoe Ball is to be the new host of “Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two”. No great surprise really – Claudia’s been talking about the show in the past tense for a while and Zoe always looked (to me, anyway) like the obvious successor.

Claudia’s only missing it this year because she’s becoming a mum again…

She hasn’t ruled out returning in 2012 (yet, anyway). πŸ˜‰

Watching it now. It’s an identical version to the UK version. Right down to the graphics, music and the 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… That said, it looks like the whole show is being filmed at night.

I have no objections to Facebook Credit voting, as it has always been integral to the Big Brother experience that people can vote as many times as they can afford. On a matter of cost-effectiveness, I am tempted to wonder whether Endemol have to pay a smaller rake on a vote via Facebook than they have to pay on a vote via the phone lines.

This is NOT true. There WILL be live feed this summer, of a certain form.

Is this true, or the same as Million Dollar Drop getting a second series in the Summer?

Clips do not count as a live feed.

Interesting he doesn’t say “live internet feed” as live feed could be classed as being shown on 5* for a number of hours.

Delayed highlights doesn’t count as a live feed either.

Do 5* have a red button channel? It wouldn’t be too bad if they dedicated that to it, if so…

Hmmmmm I think someone is playing with semantics here as I think Travis P also thinks.

1 Hour a day of Daytime Feed and ‘Snore Cam’ for 6 hours or so on 5* does not comprise what I consider as proper live streaming .

Delayed Highlights packed with adverts on Facebook does not either in my opinion.

BTW ‘Joe’ are you any relation to ‘Jacob’ ?:D

When I say “live feed”, I mean “live feed”. Not edited highlights or video clips, but live feed as you know it.

By technical definitions, it doesn’t seem to have been axed.

…Not getting renewed is a different thing entirely – I believe for something to actually be considered ‘axed’ it has to get killed mid season. So, Shafted was axed, while Scavengers was not renewed after being burried in a graveyard slot following poor ratings. For example. (I might be wrong, of course)

Something starting in August and finishing in September, as far as television is concerned, starts in the Summer season and finishes at the start of the Autumn one, though (But, television is as weird as schools when it comes to season definitions, so… Yeah, if it’s starting in August it’s summer. Though won’t neccessarially correspond with weather anyone outside the UK would correlate with summer)
