Stuff

So much stuff, so little time:

  • We’re recording a new episode of The Line Up tomorrow. It will go out hopefully at the slightly earlier time of Sunday morning/afternoon.
  • This Saturday it’s the RECORD BREAKING Schlag den Raab (unless it’s not won) with €3.5m on the line. Yes we are doing another SCINTILLATING live commentary, watch this space.
  • Take It All: basically it’s just a parade of unusual items over a forty-five minute period. But hey! That’s basically the entire appeal of Celebrity Big Brother launch night so you know. Game works OK, there’s not much to it other than “avoid having the lowest valued prize”, but the mechanics are basically sound although I was a bit bored by round three. Prisoner’s Dilemma end game still lazy, and actually surprisingly not all that tense but I suppose it’s new to mainstream America, so.
  • There are some gameshow apps out, we will review them all when we’ve got a minute. Top of the shop is The Chase released today (iThing) a pretty damn good portrayal of the show, not quite perfect but certainly recommended. There’s also Mastermind (which basically asked me, paraphrasing, “in which year did the 2011 Japanese Earthquake occur?”), A Question of Sport and Telly Addicts, each of which isn’t really loveable but basically serviceable if you like that sort of thing. There is a new version of the official Countdown app.

Avanti Un Altro! is getting a new character!

the “Duo Novembre” (a play on “November 2nd”, the day of the dead) is a pair made of Francesca Masullo and Liliana Oricchio, two very lively women aged 72 and 74.

their questions are about “us youngsters” ^_^

see them on the bottom right corner of this magazine https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/543917_537266462951350_1739940786_n.jpg

I’ve also been told that the original Alien has recovered and will be back very soon

Unrelatedly, are there any UK hosts who look more like Paolo Bonolis than this gentleman here? It’s not unknown for people to be cast apparently purely for appearance…

The Television Guide notes that Survival of the Fittest will be televised on Channel 4. At 7am on Sunday morning, do set your videos now. I have no idea if it contains Dr. Peake’s network television debut.

Other bits of the schedule for the new year are dribbling out. Dancing on Ice and Famous Family Fortunes are ITV’s Sunday night one-two, from 6 January. Over on Channel 4, the replacement for 1001 Things You Should Know is Race the Clock, the one with Rory Bremner and a desire not to run out of time. The show might have an identity crisis already: Channel 4’s press office has billed this as Face the Clock, and Digiguide says it’s just called Clock. Oh, what a night.

Something I can’t possibly construe as game, but that some Bar patrons and manager may be interested in: Neil Tennant’s Smash Hits Christmas. The Pet Shop Boy goes back! Back!! BACK!!! to see the other writers on that influential magazine. Radio 4, 11.30am on Thursday the 20th, as in next week.

Oooh, I’ll probably watch that. Thankfully, I shouldn’t be on it! All the racers of Survival of the Fittest were emailed to say “Do you have a 10K personal best of less than 35 minutes (ish, can’t remember). If so, Channel 4 would like to follow you around this 10K course…”

That was filmed in the first wave of racers, I think. I was in the last (27th!) wave of racers, so you don’t have the prospect of mistaking me for a tap dancing polar bear. I imagine I look like one whilst running.

I’m sure I saw somewhere it was “Race The Clock”, other people probably have a better memory than I do.

[P.S. Thanks for the namecheck as Dr.!!]

You know how the new theme of Only Connect is “Don’t be late”? Well, the theme of Survival of the Fittest is “Don’t switch off before the end”; if that’s not ver Peake in the final montage, it’s a dead ringer for him. Repeat showing at 4.20 on Wednesday morning: don’t forget to sleep through it.

Nope, wasn’t me I don’t think. I’m not entirely sure who you thought was me, so it’s difficult to tell, but I’m pretty sure that I wasn’t in those shots.

If you’ve not seen it yet, I noticed yesterday that Richard Osman was on last Friday’s HIGNFY and he pretty much steals the show!

Regular show on iPlayer for a few days and extended version on BBC1 tonight at 10:35 (or a bit later if you’re in a different region)
