I can’t believe Louis Walsh hasn’t been asked to do it

By | September 22, 2010

Simon Cowell and People’s Princess Cheryl Cole have been confirmed as being two of the judges on US The X Factor next year (September 2011, apparently). Edit: Maybe not, but it was all over Twitter this evening.

Meanwhile, the American Idol judges are Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and J-Lo.

If it’s boot camp this week, and judges houses next weekend, that means that Fantasy X Factor 2010 starts very soon!

Questions too esoteric for Only Connect Part Deux

By | September 22, 2010

Or rather “question that might be OK but could probably do with some work”. This is diffierent from the one I originally envisioned, what connects the following?

  • [Cambridge] First
  • [The/Evening] Argus (Brighton and Hove)
  • [Lots of places] Mercury
  • [Lots of places] Post

CMD writes:

Last names of newspaper titles (Gazette, Express, Post, Times etc.) No, I wouldn’t care to guess where these newspapers are published.

Yes indeed, local newspapers in this case. Well done to you if you got it at home.

Also, The Million Pound Drop is casting for its October series, keep an eye out on Twitter for details. The show starts October 25th for five days with extra shows on the next two following Fridays and Saturdays.

In other news, I’m enjoying 71 Degrees North as an adventure, although the elimination aspect feels rather tacked on and tacky. Would it be a better show if it was solely about celebrities doing challenges in the Arctic and only getting sent home on medical advice? Amateurs building snow caves was quite interesting and fun. You could keep the competition aspect.

Questions Too Esoteric for Only Connect

By | September 21, 2010

As it’s a bit quiet, there will be a Question Too Esoteric For Only Connect later.

Er, I can’t bring it to you just yet, I know what the question is going to be but I need to research the elements. Still though, watch this space!

Edit: Sorry, that’s all gone a bit wrong, a question will be done for another time. In the meantime for those people who arrive at the bar through rather interesting search terms, a clip from the gunge tank game from The Noel Edmonds Saturday Roadshow from the late eighties. Unfortunately a minute of the game part gets edited out.

A later version of this game involved the contestant solving five word clues and picking five prizes, trying to keep the value of the prizes under 100 points, never being told what each prize is worth.

Show discussion: The Cube Series Two

By | September 19, 2010

6:45, ITV1 and ITV HD, Sundays

Philip Schofield and The Body return for a second series of critical darling The Cube.

New games and returning favourites are promised, apparently there were sixty games prepped for series one but without counting I don’t think we saw more than about 60% of those, so “new” might be relative. Still though.

They’re pushing the iPod app on the website, I’ve reviewed it already.

The INTERACTIVE Board of Excitement 19th to 25th September

By | September 19, 2010

Alright peeps, here are some things to start you off, do add more and I’ll add them later:

  • The Cube (6:45pm, Sunday, ITV1 and ITV HD) – was the last series in HD? Anyway, new series of this begins tonight. There will be a new Show Discussion post momentarily.
  • Only Connect (8:30pm, Monday, BBC4) – Game three features the Radio Addicts vs Taxonomists.
  • Survivor: Nicaragua (Wednesday, CBS) – I quite like the idea of the Medallion of Power, as in theory it should ensure a pretty even balance going into the merge. Unless teams choose not to use it, obviously. It’s also The Amazing Race on Sunday for next week’s Board, watch out for watermelons.

So what else is exciting?
