It seems reasonable to mention that 3rd best show of 2009 Accumulate! with Dan “Dan” Peake starts the difficult third album (series) tomorrow on RU:ON, although the question is less “Are you on” and more “is this thing for real?” Let us hope for some quality punnage.

It is also The Million Pound Drop, there’s already a post for series four discussion so I would like to direct you there now.

And I don’t mean Mark Curry’s Catchphrase, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh Jeremy.

The reason I ask this is because the ever entertaining TV Ark have put some new titles and credits up, including the original Michael Groth series of Four Square (the John Sachs version of which is, of course, a Bother’s Bar favourite). Forget the slightly baffling idea that the original set was a bit better than the dark poky warehouse Sachs got for his first run.

However just before the credits, Groth and a very half-hearted audience chant “what a surprise! He doesn’t want the prize!” This, obviously, is lousy. But has there been lousier and what was it?

Just very quickly:

  • Accumulate! series three/six/whatever begins on Friday, apparently.
  • It is the last Brilliant Dollar Blimey Drop of the current series on Fox on Tuesday, and you will be able to play along LIVE! at something like three in the morning, if you want.
  • Challenge starts up on Freeview tomorrow, so rescan your boxes! Will there be a new logo? It is all too exciting.
  • Miss Only Connect? If you’re reading this before 8:30pm Monday, I’m doing a highbrow competition on Twitter (YES, A COMPETWITION) where you can win a small cash prize in a game that’s very similar to the ever popular Wonkey Donkey on SM:tv Live, and when I say similar, I mean pretty much exactly the same as. Shh, do you hear that?

That is the sound of ennui regarding the schedules this week.

So: don’t forget it’s Game Two of the Bother Series of Poker tonight at 8pm – you don’t have to be a regular to play, and you don’t need to have played last week to be in with a chance of winning the whole thing. JOIN IN IT IS FUN. The results and discussion about Game Two will be found here.

And I have gone done another iPad review, this time of The Amazing Race HD. £2.99 is probably a bit much, but if you see it in a sale it’s worth your consideration. You can also read my other iDevice reviews in the iPod, Therefore I Am section.

DS reporting that Big Brother on Channel 5 is back on.

I can’t help but feel the moment this news may have been quite exciting passed several months ago. It kind of looks a bit desperate on both sides now.

Meanwhile Blue will be representing us at Eurovision with the self-penned I Can. That means no Song for Europe this year. I hope it’s like Bubblin’, that was well wicked.

Watching Telly: Pointless

Right, I’m LIVEBLOGGING this from an Internet cafe thing in Westfield as I wait for the off-peak trains to start.

What is there to say? Not much really.

  • It was very fun, as Americans would say.
  • Geek Hero Richard Osman is really, REALLY tall. I had heard this previously, but unless you’ve seen him in real life you wouldn’t understand – from my position in the audience pit he was practically as tall as the contestants standing on the high level of the stage. At least eight feet.
  • Many studios look big on telly but are in reality quite small. Pointless looks small on telly, but actually feels quite large in real life.
  • It’s funny on screen, but it’s much funnier live – the jokes, the looks, the awkward silences and filling, it’s all quite Jane Austen.
  • Both were brilliant, Armstrong acknowledges the audience more though.
  • An interesting situation came up where two teams tied with 200 points i.e. both members had failed to come up with an answer. I don’t know how regularly that occurs, but in a tie they confer and give a third answer, best score wins. I idly wonder if such a situation comes up it might be easier if they just went to an emergency thrid round sort of question to break the tie. Something interesting and funny happened with this though, so look out for a question on Eurovisaion host cities.
  • Recordings take about 90-100 minutes each. Not an awful lot in the way of stopdowns really, I noticed Greg the floor manager off of Deal or No Deal (or used to do it at any rate) was doing that here as well.
  • Oh, in the two episodes I saw, there were no new rounds. Armstrong suggested there were some new graphics in the head to head on the podiums, although I couldn’t see them. Also Armstrong’s podium moves from the tier to the floor for the final for no reason I can discern.
  • I hadn’t considered this before, but the audience don’t start “ooohing” until the Point-o-meter (my name, but they can have it if they want) hits 70.
  • Yes, go and see it live.
  • I can get the train now.
